An Edgewood man continues to be jailed without bail after being arrested and charged in connection with a Thanksgiving night stabbing less than a mile from his house.
Andre Donnell Carter, 25, of the 1300 block of Gold Meadow Way, is facing assault and sexual assault charges, one of which is punishable by life in prison, a prosecutor said Monday. A warrant is also out for another Edgewood man, Jamarr Antonio Carter, in connection with the attack.
Andre Cater and Jamarr Carter allegedly stabbed a man in the face, and possibly sexually assaulted him at the man's home in the 1700 block of Fountain Rock Way around 7:20 p.m. Thursday.
During a bail review hearing Monday afternoon in Bel Air, Harford County District Court Judge Susan Hazlett ordered Andre Carter to be held without bail. He has been at the Harford County Detention Center since his arrest Friday.
"Based on [the] facts, I find the defendant to be extremely dangerous," Hazlett said.
Public defender Bruce Andres said Carter is single, has one child and lives with his sister and her daughter.
He earned a GED in Pennsylvania and a landscaping certificate from Carroll Community College and he works as a handler at Kohl's warehouse in Edgewood.
Andre Carter has five prior arrests and four convictions, an assistant state's attorney said.
Carter asked if he would be indicted without a preliminary hearing, and Hazlett said that depends on what the state's attorney's office decides.
Multiple charges
Andre Carter is charged with a first- and second-degree sex offense, attempted first- and second-degree sex offense and first degree assault.
The 41-year-old victim had been stabbed in the facial area with an unknown weapon in what appeared to be a "domestic related" incident, according to an initial news release from the Harford County Sheriff's Office.
The man was taken by ambulance from Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company to John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, spokesman Capt. Keith Warner said. Deputies responded to the home to interview witnesses, including the victim's girlfriend.
According to charging documents, the victim was found with what appeared to be stab wounds below his mouth. Witnesses said the assailants used a knife.
According to the sheriff's office, Jamarr Carter allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the floor. Witnesses said they saw Jamarr stab the victim in the face with a silver, non-folding knife.
Two witnesses attempted to get in front of the victim, but Jamarr Carter allegedly kicked the victim in the head several times, the sheriff's office said.
Andre Carter then began to pull the victim's pants off and he and Jamarr Carter allegedly started to sexually assault and threaten to rape the victim, the news release continued. It was "unknown why this statement was made," a sheriff's office news release issued Friday said.
Jamarr Carter was pulled off the victim by a witness, and the witness allegedly was bitten on the back of the neck by Andre Carter, police said.
Andre Carter then lifted his pants leg up and allegedly displayed a black handgun, hoping the witness would not call the police, the release said.
Andre Carter and Jamarr Carter fled the residence when police were called. The preliminary investigation at the scene concluded the victim and his assailants knew each other, but the news release did not say if the two Carters are related.
